The Bobby Lees have been causing quite a buzz in the world of music and for good reason. When the waters get stagnent, it’s great to have a band come along and kick the industry in its nads and get their collective attention. The band’s latest album Bellevue has caught the attention of just about eveyone else who weren’t already paying attention thanks to their previous two releases. Their current headline tour is selling out just about every venue that they are playing. They made a stop in Carrboro, North Carolina on April 12, 2023 at Cat’s Cradle Back Room in Carrboro, North Carolina. Their set casually started with the band bringing their own gear out which was followed by drummer Macky Bowman getting very comfy and stripping down to his socks, tennis shows and “tighty whities.” He had a mischievious grin on his face after doing do and then sat down at his kit. The show felt like it started in less than 10 seconds after that as the band took the stage and the assault began. Wow! The band wasted no time ripping into their set which was like a someone immediately grabbing you around the throat to get your attention, except this you liked having done to you. Their set was substance over style as there was no fancy light show, no smoke and mirrors, just a massive dose of garage-punk-rock. Lead vocalist/guitarist Sam Quartin was all over the stage, commanding your attention with her rather unique style. Drummer Bowman attacked his drumkit and beat it into submission all while the other half of the rhythm section Kendall Wind beat the hell out of that bass with a ferociousness that would make quite a lot of bass players out there jealous and envious.Guitarist Nick Casa stayed pretty stationary on his side of the stage and decided to let his playing speak for itself and it did so in a huge way. The band ripped through the majority of their lates album but threw in some from previous releases. It was ferious, intense, in your face and it was damn good. It’s no wonder they are getting the attention of so many since this last release as well as the acclaim that keeps getting thrown at them. It’s well deserved and this band is really just getting started. We’re huge fans of the band here at the magazine and highly recommend their latest album Bellevue. We also highly recommend that you go see them live because they take it to a whole new level when they hit that stage. This was one of the best shows that we’ve seen in a while and we’ve been to quite a lot. In an industry where bands are following formulas, using to many smoke and mirrors and relying on technology to make up for the skills they should possess, The Bobby Lees are quite a breath of fresh air.
