While live music and touring were on lockdown, fans as well as artists were going through some major withdrawals. We wanted to come up with something fun to help bridge that distance between fans and artists. What we came up with is  something called The Lockdown Lowdown and it’s a Q&A session with fun questions for artists to answer. We cover artists from all around the globe and these are not your typical interview questions, so this gives you a peek inside of the artists themselves. We’re big music nerds here at I’m Music Magazine and we love learning things like this about the artists that we love. We’re pretty sure that you’ll get a kick out of these, so we hope you’ll take the time to read them. In this installment, we sat down for a fun Q&A session with Dead Defined.

1. How have you been doing during the pandemic and how are you spending your time?

Thanks for asking, I’ve been well! Keeping a positive mindset during these unprecedented times is key for musicians right now. It’s been a rough go this past year and a bit with everything shutting down in the Live sector of things, thankfully I used this time to promote my new music and past releases on Social Media. It’s been a key factor to be able to reach out to my fans and followers and keep them up to date with what’s been going on in my life music wise and personally.

2. Have you been working on new music?

Of course! I always have new ideas on the go it’s just piecing them together that is the tricky part. I have a great new idea for a ballad type song as with my previous releases they were more of a hard rock vibe. I’m really excited to get into the studio again to start tracking it by the end of this year.

3. 5 albums that changed your life

Now this is a tough one to narrow down. Off the top of my head I’d be confident enough to say

#5 Revis – Places for Breathing

#4 Breaking Benjamin – Phobia

#3 Staind – Break The Cycle

#2 Papa Roach – Infest

#1 Alter Bridge – Blackbird

4. 5 artists that influenced you as a musician.

Once again this is a tough one ha, but off the top of my head and bands that I still listen to on a weekly basis would be Filter, Staind, Creed, Papa Roach and Alter Bridge

5. Your 5 favorite live albums

I don’t really delve too much into ‘Live Albums’ but a few great bands that I’ve listened to and their live versions of albums in full would be Rammstein, Papa Roach, Devin Townsend, Alter Bridge and Justin Timberlake believe it or not haha

6. Life on the road; 5 of the craziest/funniest/scariest tour stories

Sadly I haven’t been able to tour or play live shows yet with Dead Defined as it was only formed in 2018. The plan was to write and record music then play live shows and tour when we could, but sadly that’s when the pandemic hit here in Canada and shut down the live music industry. We are still waiting for it to come back into full swing as of now. Hopefully this time next year I’ll have some great stories to share!

7. 5 favorite movies

I love my movies! Once again a very hard topic to narrow down but a few of my favourites are Mad Max: Fury Road, Dante’s Peak, Match Point, United 93 and always my #1, TWISTER!

8. Best and worst advice you ever heard.

Fake it to make it. It actually counts as best and worst advice in one sentence in my opinion, ha. In my 20’s it was something I lived by but gradually in my 30’s I realized that if you’re not actually putting the work into building your future it’s meaningless. Fake it to make it is great for self-fulfilling and to puff up your ego but if you’re not actually doing the work to transition into actually making it, it’s useless. People have a good bullshit meter these days and if you’re just faking it and not actually making it, they will know. Just my two cents.

9. Strangest thing you ever autographed

Do you want the pg-13 answer or…? Just Kidding, Someone’s forearm. And I know that’s not strange but what is strange is that they wanted to get it tattooed onto them. For me I felt a bit uncomfortable and made them promise to not do that, so I hopefully talked them out of it.

10. If music was over today and you had to go into professional wrestling, what would your wrestling name be?

Craig the Canadian Crusher!

Thanks for the questions, Much Love!
