Live music and touring have been on lockdown and fans as well as artists are going through withdrawals. We wanted to come up with something fun to help bridge that distance between fans and artists right now. What we came up with is  something called The Lockdown Lowdown and it’s a Q&A session with fun questions for artists to answer. They’re not your typical interview questions, so it gives you a peek inside of the artists themselves. We’re big music nerds here at I’m Music Magazine and we love learning things like this about the artists that we love. We’re pretty sure that you’ll get a kick out of these, so we hope you’ll take the time to read them. In this installment, we spoke with Weed, bassist for The OddEven.

1. How have you been doing during the pandemic and how are you spending your time?

– A lot of writing. It has been nice in that regards; the postponing of shows has freed up the calendar a bit. With technology nowadays, we don’t have to be in the same room to throw ideas around with ease, which is great. Also – I live on an island in the Chesapeake Bay, so I have been cleaning beaches as well with Kent Island Beach Cleanups – trying to make a difference once beach at a time

2. Have you been working on new music?

– Yes. I will come up with a new guitar riff or ET will come up with something and we will kick it around. The songs normally start with a riff… we throw some basic drums on there, and then start building. Robb and I have been getting together via zoom and working on lyrics. We had our first social distance practice the other day where we all stood in separate corners of the room. Kind of weird, but that is the world today. We have shows on the books in September and October on the east coast and in the south, so we need to be prepared incase they happen.

3. 5 albums that changed your life

– I only get 5, huh? I will keep it rock… Led Zep II, 1 st Rage Against the Machine record, Motley Crue SATD, RHCP Mother’s Milk, Soundgarden Superunknown

4. 5 artists that influenced you as a musician.

Only 5 again… Prince, Louis Johnson, Flea, Nikki Sixx, John Paul Jones

5. Your 5 favorite live albums

Iron Maiden – Live After Death

Kiss – Alive (I or II)

Cheap Trick – Live at Budokan

Judas Priest – Unleashed in the East

Motorhead – No sleep ‘til Hammersmith

6. Life on the road; 5 of the craziest/funniest/scariest tour stories

You are going to have to read my book if you want 5 stories – lol!

Here’s one: In NC after we closed down the club with staff doing shots of Jager, I was basically carried back to the hotel room. I was a mess. At some point, maybe an hour later, I had to piss. I guess I had taken off my clothes (for some reason) and was stumbling around the room trying to find my way to the bathroom in the dark. I finally found a door handle, and half asleep, I opened the door and walked through toward the bright light. When I let go of the door, I heard a loud slam. I thought to myself, “strange, what a heavy bathroom door…” and that is when I realized that I was standing naked out in the hotel’s 4 th floor hallway. I was locked out. I tried knocking on the door, but no one answered. I assumed we had booked additional rooms, but I had no idea where they were – one over to the left? One over to the right? One floor down?… I wasn’t going to knock on random doors – too risky. I banged a bit louder, and all that did was wake up other guests in the hotel.

The hotel guests that peaked their heads out of their rooms, quickly ducked back in when they saw a naked guy in the hallway banging on his door. I found an unlocked utility closet and hid in there for a bit. I was able to take a piss in a mop bucket, so I fixed the initial pissing problem that started the whole mess, but I was still naked and had no way back into my room. I decided I was going to have to face the music and go down to the lobby for help. I made it to the elevator without issue, but when I got down to the bottom floor, the doors opened, and there was a 5-member family starring at me in all my glory. The mom shrieked. (Why they were awake with their kids at 4:45 AM is still a mystery.) I hastily moved past them and ducked down behind the unoccupied front desk. (The family opted for the stairs – lol!) I rang the front desk bell a few times hoping to only draw the attention of the hotel clerk, which worked, surprisingly. She came out of the back and was remarkably calm as I tried to explain my situation. She went to get me a blanket to cover up with. Of course, we had some fun when she explained that hotel policy dictated that they could not give me a new room key without producing ID… to which I obviously had none with me. She decided to break hotel policy a give me a key to get my naked, drunk ass, away from her front desk – probably a wise decision. Worst of all, when I got back to the room, I quietly opened the door, and I was met with “Hey… where have you been?” Fuck me! Are you serious?!?! All that banging I did and no answer before, and now I quietly open the door with a key and that ended a restful nights sleep!?!?
