Live music and touring have been on lockdown and fans as well as artists are going through withdrawals. We wanted to come up with something fun to help bridge that distance between fans and artists right now. What we came up with is something called The Lockdown Lowdown and it’s a Q&A session with fun questions for artists to answer. They’re not your typical interview questions, so it gives you a peek inside of the artists themselves. We’re big music nerds here at I’m Music Magazine and we love learning things like this about the artists that we love. We’re pretty sure that you’ll get a kick out of these, so we hope you’ll take the time to read them. In this installment, we sat down for a fun Q&A session with Alex Novak from The Venus Fly Trap.

How have you been doing during the pandemic and how are you spending your time?

Well at first it was a bit of a car crash scenario no gigs/djing/shop equals no income…i run a record shop SPIRAL ARCHIVE RECORDS had to switch to selling online, which is working ok, but i don’t see gigs or djing back anytime soon.

Have you been working on new music?

After a bit of a sojourn, we got back into writing and have two new tracks FORBIDDEN PLANET and BEBE, hopefully release them later in the year. Just recently released the track ACHILLES HEEL and have an album out in march VENUS FLY TRAP-TIME LAPSE CD/DL(GLASS RECORDS MODERN) its a selection of tracks collected from the albums TOTEM,PANDORAS BOX and LUNA TIDE, placed together as a possible alternative album in this alternate reality.

1. 5 albums that changed your life? 5 artists that influenced you as a musician?

What got me involved in music in the first place was the punk, new wave explosion it changed my perception on being able to be in a band, it was the get up and give it a go attitude and see where it leads approach to me. Minimal experience but it didn’t matter it was the ideas that counted, this diy approach got people involved in music who would not thought of it before.

2. Life on the road,tour stories?

Saving it for the book, what I can remember, hopefully the other band members can fill in the blurry details…

3. 5 favorite movies?

Do like sci-fi and film noir in general…off the top of my head…ALIEN, BLADERUNNER, PULP FICTION, CLOCKWORK ORANGE, PSYCHO…the list goes on…

4. Best and worst advice you ever heard?

Take all advice with a pinch of salt.

5. What would your wrestling name be?

I would use VENUS FLY TRAP…the human fly trap be a great costume.
