The Skints hail from the UK and are support on the Flogging Molly/The Interrupters co-headlining tour. It made a stop in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Red Hat Amphitheater on June 21 and we were excited to see the band for the first time. The band is pretty unique with its mix of  The Skints mix reggae, ska, dub, punk rock, dancehall, soul, and rap. Being an opening band means a lot of great exposure, but it can also prove to be rather challenging. It’s 6:00 and people are still rolling into the venue and in our case, it was still really hot and humid. The sun was beating down on the stage as well, so the band had their hands full. Yet, the band took teh stage as if they were headlining a sold out arena. The band’s had a short set, but it packed a lot of punch. The band opened with “Rub-a-Dub (Done Know)” and it was such a party type of song. We got a feel for their rapping, reggae and more. What a way to open! Lead vocalist/keyboardist Marcia Richards has an amazing voice that is very captivating. Guitarist Joshua Rudge was quite the character all during their set as his sense of humor won over many a fan. It didn’t take long for those people who were just coming in to loosen up and start dancing. This was my first time seeing the band and they totally won me over. I highly encourage everyone going to this show to get there early and catch this band! You can thank me later. Photos by I’m Music Magazine Owner/Editor Johnny Price
