The Ting Tings, Jules De Martino & Katie White, return with their album ‘HOME’, their first long-player in six years, featuring the singles ‘Good People Do Bad Things’, ‘Dreaming’ and ‘Winning’.

‘HOME’ was recorded in a wooden decked analogue studio and is an easy, breezy yacht rock album committed to traditional songwriting inspired by their all-time favourites, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, The Eagles, The Carpenters, Cosby Stills & Nash, Supertramp, Christopher Cross, best heard in a car, preferably with the sea in view and the windows down.

‘HOME’ sees the band embracing sun-kissed West Coast 1970s harmonies and exquisitely turned arrangements inspired by Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Joni Mitchell and the Eagles, to name but a few. A Gibson guitar luthier hand-carved the wooden template used for the album sleeve in Nashville after the band met the CEO of Gibson Guitars, who loved the band’s new sound (for more details, see Ting Tings Reveal Wooden Album Sleeve)

Two of the band’s breakthrough tracks, ‘That’s Not My Name’ & ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’ are still being used daily by social media creators and tracks from ‘HOME’ are following suit with ‘Good People Do Bad Things’ reaching well over 700,000 video uses on TikTok, reaching #5 on the TikTok Viral Top 50 and A-list on TikTok Radio. ‘Dreaming’ also has nearly 500,000 uses as of now, and is currently #6 in the TikTok Top 50, #17 on the TikTok Viral Top 50, and was also A-listed on TikTok Radio.

The band recently put on a free show at the Can Jordi Blues Station in Ibiza, their first show in the adopted homeland, taking them back to their days of putting on shows in their living room in Islington Mill in Salford. For this very special show, the band were joined by guitar sensation Nathaniel Murphy (https://www.instagram.com/zeppelinbarnatra/) of the Chicago Music Exchange. Of the feature track ‘Winning’, Katie describes it as about What are you really winning when you’re winning? And more to the point, what do you lose when you win? Because you generally lose something or trample on someone or you get trampled on. I guess it speaks to this emerging culture of toxic productivity, where you really feel like you’ve got to be on it the whole time. When actually, it’s good to sometimes ask, “Actually, what am I competing with? Who am I competing with?” We were guilty of that, too.

The band will be performing a fully live session at the legendary BBC Maida Vale Studios on June 11th for Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show, which will feature a very special cover version.

ABOUT THE TING TINGS

Formed in the creative scene of Salford, Manchester in the early 2000s, independent souls De Martino and White were thrust to international success with UK chart-topper ‘That’s Not My Name’ along with its parent double platinum album ‘We Started Nothing’ and nominations for Brits, Grammys, winning album of the year Ivor’s and MTV awards. In the US, That’s Not My Name surpassed one million sales following its use in an iPod ad, as did the follow-up ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go.’

Those songs continue to have a life of their own. ‘That’s Not My Name’ has been used on over five million TikTok videos and features on 60,000 Spotify playlists, all of which have afforded the duo creative freedom for their sixteen years as songwriters in The Ting Tings.

Having continuously moved around during album cycles from the UK to Los Angeles to Berlin, De Martino and White found Ibiza as their home and have lived there for many years. After having their daughter during the pandemic, they sought succour in the foundational musical touchstones of their childhoods. As a band that has always self-written and produced, they walked into their home studio and asked themselves a simple question? In this new world of profound uncertainty, what felt good? The resulting songs are on the new album, HOME.
