Remember The Verve Pipe? No, not the band that gave us “Bitter Sweet Symphony;” that was The Verve. Instead, they gave us “The Freshmen” and “Photograph” as well as “Colorful” from the movie Rock Star. They band is still out there in the musical trenches touring and sounding better than ever. The band drew a big crowd to the historic Rialto Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina on May 3, 2024. There was no opener for the show and the band hit the stage promptly at 8:00 as advertised. Their set was split into two acts with a brief intermission in between. The band sounded absolutely amazing! I saw them open for KISS back in 1997 on that infamous opening run on several dates on their Reunion Tour. The band has told stories about getting booed (which we heard at our shows) as well as spit on by KISS fans. Well, my buddy and I were not part of that percentage of fans because I really wanted to see the band open. Fast forward to 2024 and I have to say that they have aged like a fine wine. The musicianship has excelled in a way where not only did they sound incredible, but they sound even better live than on the recording. Their banter between songs was also pretty entertaining. The setlist included tracks from throughout their entire career and also included covers of Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie classics. The band also teased their upcoming new studio album by treating us to a track from it and it was freaking awesome. After the show was over, the band was super cool and stayed to meet fans, sign autographs and take pictures. A full setlist follows the photo gallery.
