Artist Spotlight is a segment that we started to introduce our listeners to some deserving up and coming artists/coming bands. They have made an impact on us for all of the right reasons. We think they kick ass and we hope you do too!

Having exploded onto the scene in 2016, Salvation Jayne have carved themselves a reputation for their white-hot, hook-laden explosive fuzzy riffs and glossy dream-pop undertones. The band have had success with their singles receiving support from the like’s of BBC Introducing, Kerrang Radio, Amazing Radio and dozens more stations in the UK and abroad. After relentlessly touring around the UK in 2017/18, Salvation Jayne have started the year with several sold out headlining shows, adding to their vast number of past support slots with bands including Milk Teeth, St Agnes and Rews.  More live dates are being announced regularly, alongside several shows already confirmed – that have included a major slot at Camden Rocks festival following a public vote as well as at Ramblin Man.  Catch Salvation Jayne at one of their live dates and see a band that encompass the huge desert-style riffs of QOTSA, with Pvris’s electronica pop hooks -all combining with Chess Smith’s voice which is akin to the raw edge of ex-Estrons Tali Kallstrom and the soulful power of Yonaka’s Theresa Jarvis.

We recently had a Skype session with the band to throw some questions their way and learn a little bit more about them.

I’m a music nerd and love to know what’s in a band name. Sometimes it’s something cool with a story behind it and sometimes it’s just something random. What about Salvation Jayne?

Salvation Jayne: Ours isn’t that elaborate, unfortunately! We went out to a cafe in Camden that had a sign on the wall saying “Formerly known as Salvation Jane”. We liked it so added a ‘y’ to Jayne to be different and it was a done deal after that. Don’t think it’s there anymore!

Every superhero or villain has an origin and so does a band minus the radioactive spiders and government experiments……..well, sometimes. What’s the origin of Salvation Jayne?

A simple trip to Katmandu and an Ancient One that looks a bit like Tilda Swinton giving us musical powers….…

The music scene in Kent is quite active, so a lot of us tend to know one another. SJ had been together in a slightly different format for a couple of years. Then after some changes Dan and Holly needed a singer and a drummer, they reached out to us (Tor & Chess) and we said yes!

What do you struggle with most while chasing your dream? (Support? Money? Time? etc.)

For anyone with a full time ‘Hobby’ like being in a band, as much as you love it and would love it to be a full-time thing (which it could be). To get there are struggles such as juggling a job and paying for the musician lifestyle as well as your personal life. And then maintaining a healthy mind amongst it all. A band is not cheap or part-time and can be very demanding. Luckily we all love it!

One place in the entire world that’s on your bucket list to play live?

Tor: The O2 or the Roundhouse.
Chess: What Tor said!
Dan: Brighton Dome would be fine for me!
Holly: Glastonbury Main Stage Haha

Favorite cartoon growing up or current?

Tor: Recess, Hey Arnold, Rugrats.
Chess: Noddy the little man with the red and yellow car! (As a baby of course). I used to love watching Cat-Dog!
Dan: The Simpsons, hands down.
Holly: Sharky and George, Funnybones!
