The album We Are Satan’s People from Transport League is coming out from Sound Pollution / Black Lodge on October 4, 2024. I like to approach album reviews of new to me bands with no prior knowledge, so I jumped right in without Googling them or checking out their prior works just yet.

I was halfway through the song “Possessed” when the guitar riffs caught my attention. “Unkill Crash” is the second song on the album, and where I really started enjoying things. If I had to compare the sound, it was giving me Static-X meets Judas Priest with a hint of GWAR vibes.

I enjoyed every track that followed, from the meaningful lyrics of “Hollowed Victory,” to the fun chaos of “Primate Apeshit,” which would be great in a mosh pit.

“Cosmo Death” gives some cool Black Label Society vibes. “Danger of Death” is the most fun song on the entire album and my favorite. That’s the one I’d love to see performed if I ever catch them live. The riffs, the beat, the lyrics, and the fun surprises of the backup vocals.

Overall, I didn’t absolutely love every song on We Are Satan’s People, like “Bodies Recede,” but the album is still a great listen. In particular, while I compared the band to others to help potential listeners know if they might like it, their sound is unique and blends a lot of elements together, like good rhythms and heavy bass and guitars. They have well-thought out and emotionally charged lyrics, and a lot of fun woven in their sound too.

After listening to We Are Satan’s People, I read through the press kit and did a little research on Transport League. The band describes themselves as Swedish groove metal, and it fits. Transport League has been making music together since 1994, with a 3-year hiatus before this album, their eleventh. They describe their sound like this: “”We Are Satan’s People” is a must-have for fans of Pantera, Clutch, Rob Zombie, Prong, as well as Rammstein and Volbeat. Prepare for a metal odyssey that promises to be as electrifying as it is profound.” I didn’t really catch the Volbeat, but I agree with the rest, especially Pantera.

If you’re looking for a fun new listen, especially some good workout or mosh music, give Transport League’s We Are Satan’s People a listen. You’ll be able to find it October 4, 2024.
