Strange Music recording artist Jehry Robinson ignites a bold creative chapter with the release of his new album, Hella Highwater, out now. Listen HERE. To celebrate its arrival, he also just uncovered the music video for the single “Whiskey Water.” Watch HERE.
These 16 tracks showcase the artist at the height of his creativity, breaking genre boundaries and delivering one banger after another in the process. He naturally embraces styles as diverse as country and rock, tying his vision together with hip-hop attitude and focused and fiery storytelling. He doesn’t go it alone either; he welcomes everyone from Struggle Jennings on “Gates” and Doobie on “Pour Up” to Jamie Wilson on “Acoustic” and Zane Neale on “4 Seasons.”
Step into Hella Highwater with him now.
About the album, Jehry commented, “After moving to Nashville, I found myself inspired by the sounds all around me — from Americana to country. With Hella Highfeelsanted to take those influences and blend them into what I already know, creating something that feels both brand new but also still true to me. This album is about pushing boundaries, experimenting with new textures, while showing another side of who I am as an artist.”
“Whiskey Water” revolves around a down and dirty blues guitar lick. It wouldn’t be out of place at last call in a New Orleans watering hole or a Stagecoach. He admits, “I take my whiskey with water. I like my women with curves.” The visual seamlessly translates this vibe to the screen.
Jehry goes on, “I was pouring my heart out. I’m not perfect, but I will continue to try to be better every day. If you bear with me, everything will all work out. Sometimes, we forget that we’re in the driver’s seat of our own life. Life can always change, but it’s completely up to you.”
Hella Highwater has already garnered acclaim. Right out of the gate, Folk N Rock raved, “Jehry Robinson is probably one of the most inventive voices I’ve come across in a long while, especially when you look at him as a songwriter. The way he can move so naturally between worlds, hip hop, country, and rock, is something I admired in his past work, and on this record, he’s amplified that range even further,” going on to urge, “Play it loud, sit with the lines that are surely going to sink in, and let the parts you groove to be the parts you return to when you need them.”
He teased the record with the “Better.” The music video has already generated over 967K YouTube views. This summer, he kickstarted Hella High Water season with “Feel So Long.” Emblematic of his inimitable alchemy of country, rock, and hip-hop, it landed looks from Front View Magazine and more. Another standout, “Pay Me” continues to buzz. The music video for the latter has already generated 939K YouTube views.
“Pay Me” followed “Good By Now,” which drew praise from Dancing About Architecture who said of Robinson’s genre-fusion, “There is a brilliant balance at work here… cool urban vibes and indie traditions, cutting-edge digital grooves, and infectious acoustic pop moves.”
Robinson has earned acclaim from Music Existence —”The album balances accessibility with nuance, combining catchy melodies with thoughtful storytelling. Hella Highwater is a patient, immersive work, one that showcases Robinson’s versatility as a songwriter and performer.”—and from V13, which stated, “We love to categorize music and musicians, but what do you do when you come across one who defies all categorization? Enter Jehry Robinson.”
His discography reflects his versatility and continuing growth as an artist. Notable releases include his debut album under Strange Music, 20/Twenty, featuring the collaboration “Daddy Issues” with Jelly Roll (2020). The Name Is Not Important (2021) an introspective project that delves into personal themes and highlights his lyrical prowess and Drink More Water (2023) an explosive genre-jumping album.
