Drowning in Bliss – a journey to a destructive yet calming realm.
Trxy!’s debut album Drowning In Bliss stands as an intense and deeply personal reflection on emotional survival. Released on February 27 via UnitedMasters, the project blends hazy dreamgaze atmospheres with a pronounced nu-metal edge, drawing from ’90s and 2000s influences while presenting them through a modern, individual perspective.
The album was produced and mixed by Grammy winner Lawrence Rothman in collaboration with Joe Kennedy. Across its 14 tracks, it explores themes of depression, emotional numbness, and isolation, immersing the listener in dense, atmospheric soundscapes.
Notably, much of Drowning In Bliss was created on Trxy!’s phone using BandLab, allowing the project to combine refined production with a raw, DIY spirit that enhances its authenticity.
Particular attention should be paid to the title track as well as “Closure” and “Cut Out My Heart.”
Drowning in Bliss is one of those records that establishes a clear identity from the very first seconds—both emotionally and sonically. Even the title suggests a paradox: being submerged in bliss that is at once comforting and overwhelming, even destructive. And that’s exactly how this project feels—like balancing on the edge between euphoria and emotional collapse.
Cohesive atmosphere is one of the greatest strengths of the album. The production leans on dense synth that is distorted, soft ambient textures and pulsing beats.
The sound design is layered and intentionally blurred as if the listener is sinking beneath the complex of different, hard to name emotions.
The mix seems to be intentionally imperfect and chaotic in aesthetics – vocals are sometimes buried and blurred, there are a lot of effects and the song’s structures aren’t always conventional which is definitely an advantage of an album – it feels more intimate and mysterious.
The vocals are rough but soft with spatial effects. The voices don’t dominate the track – vocals blend in, making another emotional layer.
Lyrically, the album explores themes of escapism, emotional dependency and depression, loneliness. The whole album is made in one solid style – tracks flow into each other seamlessly with a consistently maintained mood.
The album feels like a collage of influences filtered through a distinctly personal lens.
Strengths:
– Strong, immersive atmosphere
– emotionally driven and bold production
– Distinct yet rough artistic identity
– effective balance between beauty and unease
Weaknesses:
– the production may feel too blurry to some
– lack of clear, standout tracks to casual listeners
– vocals may feel overprocessed and distant to some
Drowning in Bliss is not trying to please everyone—and that’s exactly why it works. It’s an intimate, sometimes challenging journey through emotions that resist easy definition. Trxy! creates a nu-metal ,shoegaze world that’s easy to get lost in, but not necessarily easy to escape.
It’s a record for listeners who value atmosphere over immediacy and are willing to fully sink into the experience.
My rate: 8/10
